Longest Government Shutdown On Record Could Effect The Economy

According to a report by Business Insider, on Saturday, a partial shutdown of the federal government entered its fourth week, making it the longest on record, over a dispute regarding border security that has put large swaths of the economy at risk. On Friday, Congress approved a bill that ensures back pay for furloughed employees, but it must still be signed into law and would not be distributed until after the shutdown ends. In the meantime, Business Insider suggests that reduced income will continue to weigh on consumer spending, which accounts for about 70% of economic activity.
